Oil and Gas Data Management

RIO Overview

RIO RIO RIO

RIO is an Enterprise Technical Data Store for exploitation, exploration, property evaluation, reservoir analysis, and field operations. Designed by engineers and geologists, Rio is a "smart" system used to manage and analyze production, reservoir, geological, and petrophysical data.

SQL based, RIO allows multiple applications to utilize and benefit from the same data. RIO's open architecture, ease of use, and stringent business rules facilitate the "Wisdom of Crowds" in corporate decision making, providing a mechanism for leveraging your enterprise's aggregate knowledge to improve your ability to analyze situations and make better decisions.

Having all commonly accessed data in one location increases operational efficiencies by removing bottlenecks associated with data storage and maintenance at disparate locations throughout your organization.

RIO handles a variety of production and reservoir data types including:

  • completion header
  • well test
  • monthly volumes
  • daily production
  • perforation
  • well injection tests
  • BHP surveys
  • water analysis
  • gas analysis
  • completion level comments
  • corporate hierarchy and interests

Built-in tools such as the data visualizer, reservoir summary report, Z factor calculations and numerous other reports leverages your data, providing you with very powerful analytical tools.

RIO also manages G&G data including:

  • well header
  • directional survey
  • pay and point of interest data

Additional tools such as the Wellbore Utility Chart, the Pteradactyl Chart, and Wellbore Summary Report, utilize the relationship between this G&G data and your production data to provide a unique perspective on the reservoir and sand/tops performance.

RIO Highlights

  • Easy to Use

    • Powerful filtering mechanisms allow to easily identify well(s)/completion(s) that require attention
    • Completion level statistical information available with "one click" (cum prod, last test, last daily rates etc.)
    • Built-in ad-hoc reporting tool
    • Built-in ad-hoc querying tool
    • Geological Calculator for "on the fly" SSD, TVD, TST (net and gross), TVT (net and gross) calculations
    • Easy storage and retrieval of well related documents such as schematics, permits, and logs with built-in document management component
  • Data Visualizer

    • Multiple Y variables vs. time (line/point, stacked and cum) or cum (including P/Z)
    • Normalized type curve
    • Overlays
    • Up to 3 independent Y Axes
    • Rapid flip through a set of graphs for group of completions, one completion at a time or broken up by the specified filter
    • Integration with MS PowerPoint
    • User templates (saved chart layout) and views (saved set of user templates with arrangement and a date range)
    • Formula editor — allows you to create your own calculated fields
  • Retooling

    • Once reassigned, personnel proficient in RIO can quickly and easily find all the necessary data to become familiar with new properties
    • New employees are quickly and easily brought onboard and up to speed on their properties with RIO, finding all their data readily available
  • Data Quality

    • Stratigraphic column manager — manages sand names throughout RIO
    • SSD/TVD synchronization — all SSD and TVD values related to a wellbore are recalculated any time its directional survey, KB elevation, or surface location X&Y values are modified
    • Database level constraints help minimize "bad data" in the system
    • Relationship between wellbores and completions is fully exploited
  • Integration

    • Interface to IHS' Enerdeq application allows for automated loading of production data on a nightly basis for OBO, historical and offset wells
    • Interface to Merrick's Procount and DynaCap applications supports automated loading of allocated monthly volumes, well tests, daily production, comments and injection volumes into RIO. Vendors such as WellPoint Systems have built links directly to RIO.
    • Applications such as OVS, Aries, OFM and DSS can utilize the data in RIO in-situ. An interface to PEEP has been built so data is loaded automatically every night.
    • PHdWin can import production data directly from RIO
    • Additional solutions can be developed as necessary
  • Scalable

    • Easily loads thousands of OBO, historical and offset wells and associated production with little or no impact on RIO's overall performance
  • IT

    • Disaster recovery is a easy and economical, as critical data is stored in one location

The "Pteradactyl" Chart

A unique chart that combines production, pay, BHP, contacts, and perf data into one chart that can be used to summarize and understand a field, sand or reservoir. Highly beneficial for understanding complex geology.
